D: Ahchoo! Ahchoo!
Mom: Oh honey! again?
D: I think I have a cold.
Mom: I think you do too.
D: Ahchoo! Ahchoo! Ouch, that hurt.
L: Mom, is he contagious?
Mom: Probably, that's why the vet has you on medicine as well.
L: Oh. Well in the mean time, can't you put him somewhere else?
D: Hey look, I didn't choose to get sick, I just did.
L: But he's annoying to sleep with because his sneezes cause the hammock to shake.
D: And it causes me to shake too. Sometimes my sneezes hurt.
Mom: Linus, please just put up with it. Your brother isn't feeling well and he just wants to snuggle.
L: But he sneezes on me. And I don't want to get sick.
Mom: You've already been exposed. And if you do get sick, hopefully it won't be as bad.
D: Mom, can I have a little more of the chicken broth?
L: And me too?
Mom: Sure.
D: The warm broth feels good.
L: And we both get treats if the other gets some.
Mom: Okay, here you are. Linus, let Darby go first.
L: Okay, okay. But I still don't see why I have to. Ahchoo!
Mom: Uh-oh.

Stories
Mom: Well now. I think the boys are well rested after their stay at the pet store. Linus is finally eating Fruit Loops again and Darby runs around trying to find new hiding places. From what I was told, it sounded like the boys may have changed a few minds about rats.
L: I like to think of yourselves as rat ambassadors.
D: But I was the one who got petted by a little girl.
L: We both had our turns out of the cage and meeting new people. I really liked the tall man.
Mom: I remember you took to his shoulder when I dropped you off. I didn't even get a kiss.
L: Well, I just know who are rat people and who are not.
D: I also sat on the tall man's shoulder too. He said that I was his rat buddy since his girl had babies and was busy with them.
Mom: He did say that in his notes.
L: We came out everyday and were escorted around the store.
D: And we got to see a lot of other animals. Some had fur or feathers and we even saw some of the same fish like at home. But they didn't know us and hid in their plants.
L: I also observed first hand how commerce is performed. Did you know that money is like paper towels?
D: And there was this young man who kept giving us Fruit Loops!
L: So many Fruit Loops!
Mom: Oh, so that's why you didn't eat any when you got home? I did notice the container has half gone and I know we filled it before we left. You usually don't get that much at home.
D: But they are so good!
Mom: So over all, would you say you had a good time?
D: We had so much fun! And we got away with more stuff than you allow.
L: The humans were courteous and professional and ...
D: A whole lot of fun! So when are we going back?
Mom: Well, I don't know.
D: Well whenever.
L: But please, tell us before hand. I really don't like surprises.
Mom: Okay, I promise. Hey where are you going?
D: Well, I'm hungry.
L: And I'm...I'm hungry too?
Mom: You want a Fruit Loop?
L: I like to think of yourselves as rat ambassadors.

Recovery
Mom: Well, we made it back! After eating real homemade food for four days and we are still full. The boys seemed like they had a good time.
Dad: But they are so exhausted. We brought them out to play but they wouldn't leave our shoulders. And they even passed up Fruit Loops.
Mom: I think they had a little too much excitement and I'm going to give them another day to adjust to being at home again.
Dad: Although it sounded like Darby had a good time.
Mom: Oh, no doubt. He is the more social of the two. But Linus does not like change and was sleeping so hard this morning that he wouldn't even give me a kiss.
Dad: Darby was right to the veggie dish this morning.
Mom: And by the time I got up, there were still veggies left and both boys were heavily sleeping.
Dad: So then, just let them sleep.
Mom: I'll try but they're so cute!
Dad: But, like you said, they've had a big weekend. You know how good it feels to come home after a vacation, well the rats need that time too. So let them sleep.
Mom: I'll try but anyone with disproportionate ears compared to their face are cute!
Dad: So is that why you married me?
Mom: Well, your ears do stick out a little.
Dad: And your hair covers up yours.

Start of an Adventure
L: I think something is up.
D: What do you mean?
L: I mean Mom and Dad are not telling us something.
D: You are such a pessimist.
L: Well, look at their actions. Today Mom and Dad were making a list of what to take out of the cage. And Mom brought out the plastic box with holes. That was the same box we traveled to when we visited the lady that picked us up and listened to your breathing and then she weighed us.
D: You're right. It is the same box.
L: Like I said, something is up.
D: And we have been getting a lot of kisses recently.
L: And all the extra attention.
D: Oh no! Are we moving?
L: I think we might be.
D: But for how long?
L: I don't know Darby. It could be forever.
D: No! Who is going to groom Mom's eyebrows in the morning and who is going to scurry across the floor and piddle in her backpack and who is going to run in the wheel at 3 am?
L: I don't know.
D: I don't want to move! I like my pink igloo, I like my fleecy tube, I even like that blue pan in the corner!! I don't want to go!
L: I don't know if we'll have any choice.
Mom: This adventure will have to continue at a later time.
D: What? You mean we aren't going to find out what happens to us? Where are we going?
Mom: You'll find out tomorrow.
L: You are sending us away.
Mom: Dad and I are going away for a longer time than I feel comfortable with leaving you two alone. But we will come and get you again.
D: So we are moving?
Mom: No, more like going on a little vacation.
L: And we didn't get a say in this?
Mom: I taking you to a place you should be familiar with and I have a feeling you will have a wonderful time.
L: I doubt it.
D: I still don't want to move.
Mom: You two will be fine. But as I said earlier, to be continued.
D: What do you mean?

Delayed as Usual
Mom: I can't believe that it's been two weeks since I last updated this blog for the boys.
L: Well I can believe it. You've been going to bed early, sleeping in until 6:45 . . .
Mom: What does that have to do with why I've haven't updated?
D: I think what Linus is trying to say, Mom, is that you've been acting weird the past few days.
L: Yeah. You're not mad when you get home. You don't look tired.
D: You're been dressing nicer...
L: And you play with us more.
D: And give us belly raspberries.
Mom: Well, I do feel happier.
L: That's good because when you're happy, we're happy.
D: And very full. *burp*
L: So what changed?
Mom: Well I actually do something with my time when I'm away from home.
L: Like sleep?
D: Or are you eating more Fruit Loops?
L: Or maybe she sleeping in a fleece hanging tube?
D: No, no, no. She's eating more veggies. I really like corn.
L: Darby, we all like corn. But I think she's just getting more sleep...
Mom: Well I'll let these two figure it out.
D: No! She has more energy because of fruit not fleece!
Mom: As I said before, time had gotten away from me. I will try to get the boys out a little more and see what happens in the next few weeks. *hint, hint* Dad and I are going somewhere for Thanksgiving and the boys will have to stay somewhere else. But they don't know yet.
L: Mom why are you typing really quietly?
Mom: Oh, nothing. Just making sure I don't misspell anything.
D: I still think it's because of food.
L: Darby give it up already. Mom is getting more sleep and that's final.
Mom: *shakes head and smiles* Good night for now.

Bath Time
L: That was not fun! I am not doing that again!
D: Linus, it wasn't that bad.
L: Not that bad! It was horrible! It was inhumane and humiliating!
D: So anyway, Mom went on a little shopping spree with something called a gift card. We got a pink igloo, a wooden tube log, and a few toys which hide food and a door opens or something.
L: Stop rambling and just get to the humiliating part!
D: ...and shampoo.
L: Dad said we smelled bad.
D: So Mom gave us a bath.
L: And now we smell like musty flowers.
D: The water was warm and we were lightly blow dried after snuggling in warm towels.
L: And we still smell like musty flowers.
D: I found it rather nice but it was different since we had never swam in water before.
L: And I still smell.
D: Linus, you always smell. That's why we had to have a bath in the first place!
L: Actually, it's your fault.
D: My fault, how is that my fault. I don't sleep in the litter box.
L: Well at least I use the box.
D: Only for sleeping in. And that's why we had a bath. Because you smell!
L: ...like musty flowers.

Autumn Weather
D: You were so wiggly last night.
L: Well I was cold.
D: Mom made us new fleece snuggles for a reason.
L: The pocketed hammock is nice and I prefer the tent.
D: We can both share the tent but you need to stay on your own side.
L: But it's warmer with you.
D: Well, I don't like having your furry butt in my face.
L: *Linus smiles*
D: And why is it when I try to snuggle with you you bite me or push me away? I let you sleep on back like a pillow and I can't sleep on you?
L: First of all, you have cold feet and I don't like them under my belly. Second your fur is soft, mine is coarse. And I don't want you to mess up my fur.
D: Those aren't good reasons.
L: Well until you get bigger than me, that's just the way it is. I am the alpha and what I say goes.
D: Someday I'll be bigger.
L: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you.
D: I just said fine. You are the alpha and the older brother so ...
L: What I say goes.
D: What you say goes. But only until I beat you at wrestling.
L: Well I was cold.
